In 1955 SMMA pioneered an approach that integrates architecture, engineering, and planning to create a continuous dialogue among disciplines. Today, we continue to seek diversity of perspectives to achieve the truest solution in every aspect of what we do, developing places that are smarter, more elegant, and more perfect for the people who use them.
We strive for our work to be meticulous in detail, craft, and performance. Yes, design must be beautiful inside, out, and beyond. But we strive for even more — for vital, forward-looking design solutions that provide the greatest positive impact to our clients, communities, and culture.
We are not A, E, or AE. We are integrated and multi-disciplinary — a genuine design collective driven to solve complex challenges.
SMMA has been in continuous operation in Cambridge, MA for 70 years, with additional offices in Providence, RI (since 2007) and Manchester, NH (since 2025).
