BankNewport Delivers more than 500 Food Items to Support Rhode Island Veterans through “Kind Souls, Full Bowls” Initiative

BankNewport recently concluded its Kind Souls, Full Bowls comfort food collection drive, delivering more than 500 nonperishable food items to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI) on Wednesday, November 5. The donations, collected from the Bank’s 19 branch locations statewide between September 29 and October 17, will help stock OSDRI’s food pantry and provide support to local veterans and their families throughout the holiday season.

The initiative encouraged customers, employees, and community members to contribute new, unopened boxes and bags of pasta, rice, cereal, and oatmeal. The response was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the community’s strong commitment to supporting those who have served our country.

“At BankNewport, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to give back to the communities we serve,” said Jack Murphy, President & CEO of BankNewport. “Through Kind Souls, Full Bowls, our employees and customers came together to support veterans who have given so much for our country. It’s a small act that represents the big heart of our Rhode Island community.”

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Johnston, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island is the state’s primary nonprofit resource for homeless and at-risk veterans, offering housing, employment, legal, and basic needs assistance.

“Partnerships like this are critical in helping us meet the growing demand for food and household essentials among local veterans,” said Timothy Ruel, Chief of Veteran Outreach, OSDRI. “We’re incredibly thankful to BankNewport and its customers for standing with Rhode Island’s veteran community.”

Since 2016, BankNewport’s Kind Heart and Kind Souls campaigns have collectively provided thousands of essential items — including food, clothing, bedding, and hygiene products — to Rhode Islanders in need.

About Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI):
Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI) is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and Rhode Island’s primary nonprofit resource for homeless and at-risk veterans. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Johnston, OSDRI’s mission is to strengthen the veteran community by providing crucial wrap-around services.

Ending the cycle of veteran homelessness, and preventing it, requires much more than providing a roof over the head of an individual veteran or veteran family. To achieve this goal, OSDRI offers a wide range of life-changing services including supportive permanent and transitional housing, legal and VA Benefit representation, intensive case management, basic human needs assistance (for example, food and clothing) and employment training programs.

OSDRI works hand in hand with almost every major state and federal agency, as well as community organizations and employers to provide seamless referrals to outside sources of assistance. For more information, please visit: About Us - OSDRI.
