People's Credit Union Celebrates 17th Year Sponsoring the Newport Gulls' FANatic About Reading Program

or the 17th consecutive year, People’s Credit Union is sponsoring the Newport Gulls' FANatic About Reading Program to promote the importance of reading for elementary school students on Aquidneck Island. Before the school year ended, the Newport Gulls collegiate athletes had the opportunity to read books to children in their classrooms. As part of the program, players also hand out bookmarks and ask the students to read four books over the summer. On Wednesday, July 23rd, People’s Credit Union will host FANatic About Reading Night at Cardines Field in Newport to honor the students for their accomplishments.

“The FANatic About Reading program with the Newport Gulls is something we are very proud of,” stated Courtney Hunter, Head of Community Development for People’s Credit Union. “It's inspiring to see these collegiate athletes make a positive impact in the community, both on and off the field.”

In all, the FANatic About Reading Program reached over 3,000 students in 150+ classrooms on Aquidneck Island this year.
