Rhode Island Energy Foundation Awards $250,000 to Support Community Initiatives Across the Ocean State

Charitable grants provide support to 22 nonprofit organizations working to make a difference across communities served by Rhode Island Energy.

The Rhode Island Energy Foundation (RIE Foundation) is pleased to announce that it is awarding $250,000 in funding to support 22 nonprofit organizations working to improve the lives and well-being of individuals throughout the Ocean State.

The RIE Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization funded by shareowners of PPL Corporation, Rhode Island Energy’s parent company. Since 2022, the organization has awarded over $1.5 million in grants to organizations across Rhode Island.

“Rhode Island’s strength comes from the people who roll up their sleeves and make a difference in every corner – from Woonsocket to Westerly,” said Greg Cornett, president of Rhode Island Energy and an officer of the RIE Foundation. “These 22 organizations are at the heart of that work, and supporting their efforts reflects our belief that when local organizations thrive, the entire state rises.”

The Empowering Communities grants program supports organizations across communities served by Rhode Island Energy. The grants support education initiatives, promote acceptance and inclusivity, and strengthen community resources. The RIE Foundation’s latest investments will support various initiatives including educational leadership programs, literacy improvement programs, youth development and employment, early college access, and out-of-school programs – from STEM-based education to urban environmental and sustainability initiatives.

“By providing these resources to Rhode Island organizations, we not only invest in the communities Rhode Island Energy serves, but collectively, we’re helping to ensure the betterment of our customers’ lives,” added Cornett.

Empowering Communities grants for spring 2025, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000, are being awarded to:
