Assistant Athletic Trainer

Rhode Island College is seeking a dedicated Assistant Athletic Trainer to support the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes across our 22 NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic programs. This is a full-time, academic year, continuing position.

Working closely with the Head Athletic Trainer and athletics staff, the Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the day-to-day operations of the athletic training program, helps maintain training facilities and equipment, coordinates medical clearances and insurance processes, and collaborates with campus health services and external medical providers. This position also assists with supervising student athletic trainers and supporting overall student-athlete wellness initiatives.


Essential duties:

  • Assist in the assessment, first-aid, treatment, referral, and rehabilitation for athletic injuries as part of intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Assist in the organizational management, education and coordination of the athletic training facilities and equipment to ensure cleanliness, proper use, policy implementation, etc.
  • Act as a secondary liaison with institutional health services as well as all medical support personnel (i.e., orthopedic consultants, EMT, etc).
  • Assist in the coordination of student-athlete medical exams, clearance, insurance coverage, and claims procedures.
  • Assist in the identification, training, supervision and evaluation of student trainer staff.
  • Assist in the recommendation, coordination, development, and maintenance of the policies and procedures manual for the athletic medicine area.
  • Assist the assistant director and head athletic trainer in the inventory and purchase of medical supplies.
  • Assist in the student-athlete support program as it relates to student-athlete health issues.
  • Assist in fundraising initiatives including camps.
Work Schedule:

The work schedule may vary depending on the operational needs of the athletic programs and may require evening, weekend, and occasional travel to support practices, competitions, and other related activities.

Proposed starting salary range:

$50,000 - $60,000


Required qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, or Physical Therapy with certification by NATABOC or Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training provided the candidate meets all NATABOC certification credentials.

  • Experience: Proven experience in athletic training gained through roles such as student athletic trainer, internship, graduate assistantship, or professional practice.
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
 
  • Ability to obtain State of Rhode Island Athletic Trainer (AT) license required within two months of being selected.
  • CPR, Standard First Aid and AED certification, instructor certification a plus.
  • Computer knowledge required.
  • Background in medical software similar to Medicat.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of NCAA policies and procedures related to athletic training.
