Newport Mansions Offer Holiday 
Decorating Tours and Workshops
 

Have you ever wondered what it takes to decorate the Newport Mansions for the holiday season? Want to try making your own holiday wreath or learn how to arrange the perfect holiday floral display?

Tickets for the following Newport Mansions programs will be available starting Friday, November 1. Each event is limited in attendance, so tickets will sell out quickly. See www.newportmansions.org/events for details on these and other programs.
 

• Behind the Scenes: The Breakers Holiday Decorations – Thursdays, December 5, 12 and 19, 11 a.m.-noon, The Breakers, 44 Ochre Point Ave.

Jim Donahue, the creative genius behind the Newport Mansions' holiday glamour, will discuss how the decorations are created and installed; share tips and tricks to use at home; and let you peek into the attic of The Breakers, where the designing takes place.

• Holiday Wreath-Making Workshop – Saturday, December 7, 10 a.m.-noon, The Breakers Greenhouse, behind The Breakers Stable & Carriage House at 53 Coggeshall Ave., Newport.

Jeff Curtis, Director of Gardens & Landscapes for the Preservation Society of Newport County, will offer instructions on how to create one-of-a-kind holiday wreaths using locally sourced materials. Participants will be provided with wreath-making materials.

• Beyond Poinsettias: Floral Design for the Holidays – Thursday, December 12, 6 p.m., The Breakers Greenhouse.

Join Preservation Society Head Floral Designer Becky Bonnenfant and Linda Del Buono, Senior Buyer at R.J. Carbone Floral Distributors, to learn about designing holiday arrangements. Becky will give a live demonstration and one lucky participant will win a holiday arrangement to take home.

The Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island, is a nonprofit organization accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the area's historic architecture, landscapes, decorative arts and social history. Its 11 historic properties – seven of them National Historic Landmarks – span more than 250 years of American architectural and social development.
