Rhode Island College Health Services invites applications for the part-time position of nurse practitioner. The individual will provide primary medical care to the college community including emergency situations; perform acts of diagnosis and health care management within the guidelines of the State of Rhode Island General Laws, Chapter 5-34-NUR/ED (Rules and Regulations for the Licensing of Nurses). The practice at the college includes collaboration with other licensed health care professionals.
Founded in 1854, Rhode Island College is a distinctive regional college personalizing education for undergraduate and graduate students. The college serves approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students through its five schools: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Business, the School of Nursing and the School of Social Work.
The 180-acre campus is located in beautiful, historic Providence, Rhode Island’s capital, with excellent proximity to the academic and cultural resources of Boston and New York City.
Required qualifications:
- Master’s degree in nursing and a bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a nurse practitioner specializing in family practice or adult medicine.
- Possess the knowledge and clinical skills to provide patient care as a nurse practitioner without direct supervision.
- Must be able to work a non-standard work week when necessary.
- Possess the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; be able to organize, coordinate, and supervise support staff.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to prepare and deliver health education presentations before groups of students or staff.
- Knowledge and proficiency of computer software applications (Microsoft Office programs, etc.)
Licenses:
- Must have a current R.I. Registered Nurse License and meet all qualifications as a Registered Nurse Practitioner in either adult medicine or family practice.
- Must meet all qualifications for prescriptive privileges. (Reference: Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner as defined in Chapter 5-34-35 and 5-34-39 of the R.I. General laws.
- Must have current C.P.R. certification.
Preferred qualifications: Experience in women’s health; fluency in a second spoken language (i.e. Spanish).
